Day 40, 7.6.18, Seneca Falls

Friday we're spending at Seneca Falls and their Canal Fest. Our visit to the Women's Rights National Historic Park last week gave us an introduction, so we're back to delve more deeply. I had posed the question last time about the connection between abolition and suffrage, and got an inadequate answer. There was once a meeting about abolition, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton and her husband, among many others were there. Discussions and speeches were open to all, but when it came time to vote on the resolutions, only the men were allowed to. Elizabeth and the other women decided then to hold the historic conference that happened here in Seneca Falls. It's a very well done exhibit, and I encourage all to visit.

Part of the Canal Fest includes a parade of boats. We're going to join by rowing Partial Eclipse, decorated with resources we've scrounged from dumpsters. More on that tomorrow.

They've got three stages set up (one is a private deck at a restaurant/pub) with music at each one, sometimes overlapping each other. We enjoyed dancing at the main stage to Nick and the Nice Guys.

Days 36-38, August 4-6. Homeward bound

Exiting the New River near low is rather exciting. The whole estuary funnels through a narrow channel and can reach high speeds with rapids...
