Day 42, 7.8.18, Baldwinsville

Sunday brings more sunshine and a light breeze. More than half the boaters have departed by the time we take showers, fill our water jugs, and get ourselves ready. Down through the double locks, back into the end of Cayuga Lake, down another lock, and soon we're heading east on the Erie Canal. We had planned to continue west all the way to Buffalo, but we're spending too much time exploring the history and other interesting points along the way, so we've shortened the trip. We'll exit the NY canal system at Oswego and head north into Ontario.
The second longest aqueduct on the old Erie Canal. Amazing craftsmanship.

The end of the weekend and lots of boats are out, and lots of fishermen along the banks near every road crossing. We arrive back in Baldwinsville and tie up to the wall, then hit up the local grocery store. When we return, a fisherman right next to us calls out and asks if we have a net. No, but perhaps a bucket will do. He's caught a 3lb catfish, and I just manage to get him in the bucket when the line breaks. The fisherman doesn't want it, so we've got a fish! Unfortunately we just went shopping so our limited refrigerator space is full. So he's put on a gill string and tied on behind.

Days 36-38, August 4-6. Homeward bound

Exiting the New River near low is rather exciting. The whole estuary funnels through a narrow channel and can reach high speeds with rapids...
