Day 75, 8.10.18, Sainte Jean sur Richileau to Island of Nuts

About a year ago we couchsurfed in Montreal with Richard. As we approached his city we tried contacting him but failed. Last night we connected via the internet, and this morning he came out to Saint Jean sur Richeleau on his motorcycle. We had a great time chatting and catching up over pizza, then he locked through with us, and we said our goodbyes.

Out of the Chambly Canal and headed south into Lake Champlain just where it drops over some rapids and becomes the Richeleau River, flowing north to the St. Lawrence.

Now that we are on the big lake (although still in Canada) and there are no more low bridges, we can raise the mast and enjoy sailing without the sound of internal combustion. Although there are many power boats out and about on this fine friday afternoon.

Near Isle aux Noix (island of nuts) we drop anchor near another fort now maintained by Parks Canada. We'll investigate tomorrow.

Docked at lock nine on the Richileau Canal

Richard drives from Montreal to meet us for lunch in St. Jean sur Richileau

Out to lunch for some VERY delicious pizza

In St. Jean sur Richileau for lunch with Richard.  Nice Harley!

Lift bridge on the Chambly Canal going up!

Time to finish up the produce before crossing the border.  Gary makes a most delicious Caprizi salad.

Days 36-38, August 4-6. Homeward bound

Exiting the New River near low is rather exciting. The whole estuary funnels through a narrow channel and can reach high speeds with rapids...
