In the night wind picks up and shifts to the west. We'd gotten so used to life on the canals that to feel Eclipse rocking while at anchor is a new experience. Excited about sailing we're up early, weigh anchor and set sails. Eclipse hums along at 5.5 knots. It's still overcast, and when rains threaten and the wind shifts more to the south, we reef the mainsail.
Today we stop at Hawksbury for Tim Horton's Wifi, gas and water. Since leaving Ottaw we hear more and more French. Mid afternoon we reach Carillon Lock, a whopping 65 foot drop. The lock attendant only speaks French and has to go get someone who speaks English just for us. The lock is full with about eight boats, and we are rafted alongside another sailboat, about the same size as ours.
We continue sailing, completing the day with fifty miles behind us. Thunderstorms are building so we take refuge near Ile de Carillon, almost in sight of Montreal.

The lock at Carillon is a bit overwhelming. A veritable canyon! |

Sunset on "Lake of Two Mountains" just shy of Montreal on the Ottawa River |
