Day 77, 8.12.18, Valcour Island

Dead calm in the morning. We motor out into open lake where there's a bit of a breeze, but not enough to make any progress. Most of the day goes like that. With the sails up, motor for an hour or so until a breeze picks up, shut off the motor and sail very lazily for half an hour until you realize you're really not making any progress, motor for another hour or so, repeat.

In this way we arrive at Valcour Island, in sight of Burlington, where we find a very nice cove to anchor in. Partial Eclipse takes us to shore for a nice hike through a cedar forest. The night is clear, so we set up the cockpit for sleeping, and enjoy the beginnings of the Perseids Meteor Shower before drifting off to sleep.
No wind.  Gary bored.  Gary pulls boat down lake Champlain.  Not effective.

Gary still bored.  Bye Gary!

Eclipse at anchor in Sloop Bay on Valcouer Island.

From our anchorage on Lake Champlain we watch the clouds pore over Mount Mansfield in the Green Mountains in Vermont

Rainbows at sunset!

Days 36-38, August 4-6. Homeward bound

Exiting the New River near low is rather exciting. The whole estuary funnels through a narrow channel and can reach high speeds with rapids...
