Day 11, July 8, We got in trouble.

Well, not too bad.

There was a little wind as we departed Onset, but it died. All of Buzzards Bay was glassy and smooth except for motorboat wakes. We drifted as best we could, but gave up for a motor. Around 2pm a little breeze came up, gradually a little stronger, and soon we were sailing properly.

Our destination was a little island near Woods Hole, MA called Uncatena. Sparsely populated with bays and beaches a-plenty, and a road around the perimeter. We thought “We'll anchor, and ride our folding bicycles around the road!” Alas twas not to be. Locals directed us to a vacant mooring (nice!) from where we rowed to shore and set up our bikes. We asked some men working on boats about the docking and etc, where we found out that the entire island, including the roads, was all privately owned and we were not welcome. Alas! But a nearby island is open. So we packed up the bicycles and explored the trails of unpopulated Bull Island. Very nice with beach trees, sassafras, and of course, poison ivy.

Dinner of meatloaf with duck. Really good.

Days 36-38, August 4-6. Homeward bound

Exiting the New River near low is rather exciting. The whole estuary funnels through a narrow channel and can reach high speeds with rapids...
