Day 4, July 1. Rockport MA

We're up with the glow of morning but no sun yet. Drop the mooring and start motoring with a strong falling tide to the ocean. There are two low bridges to pass, but the lift masters don't start work until 7am, so we drop the mast, pass under, and put it up again. The MacGregor sailboat is renown for easy rigging/de-rigging for this size boat.

We're finally out on the ocean! And with a favorable wind we turn south past Rye and Hampton. Then the wind stops (typical late morning doldrums) but when they return we've got a headwind! Arrggghh. But it's steady and strong and pleasant sailing. Along the way we see two harbor seals (one was really big!) and a minke whale!

A few weeks ago we made a solar oven (similar to a GoSun) and mounted it on the aft rail. For lunch we cooked sausages under the sun. We'll do more of this!

We had thought to transit the Anisquam River, but the wind was more favorable to go out around Cape Ann, so we picked Rockport for our anchorage. After dinner we strolled around the very touristy town as the shops were closing.

Days 36-38, August 4-6. Homeward bound

Exiting the New River near low is rather exciting. The whole estuary funnels through a narrow channel and can reach high speeds with rapids...
